WATCH: “Sam Van Aken’s Tree of 40 Fruit” (Orchard People)

In Week 1’s “Plant Reproduction” module, we introduce grafting as an artificial method of asexual reproduction. It is a common method for producing many of the fruit trees we see sold in nurseries and garden centres, and planted in orchards, farms, and gardens.

The Tree of 40 Fruit is a single tree that grows 40 different types of stone fruit (peaches, apricots, plums, cherries, nectarines, and almonds) grafted by Sam Van Aken, an art professor from Syracuse University.
