Mental Health Workshop: People Pleasing & Self-Advocacy (March 7, Virtual)

In this virtual workshop, Zaineb Nizami (Crisis Counsellor) at Polycultural Immigrant & Community Services will be discussing the concept of people pleasing and how we can establish boundaries in order to combat this behavior.

People Pleasing refers to putting someone else’s needs ahead of your own and doing whatever it takes to make the other person happy. People pleasers are often attuned to others and are often seen as agreeable, helpful, and kind. They have a hard time advocating for themselves and being assertive which can lead to self-sacrifice and self-neglect. Earning approval is very important to them as a way to maintain relationships.

The workshop will talk about what people pleasing can look like, how it is different from being nice, where it comes from, and how we can overcome it.
