1. MEET A GROW STAFF MEMBER: Amanda Laszcz
Here we introduce our valuable GROW staff who bring Landscape Ontario’s GROW Training Programs to you.
For this week, meet Amanda Laszcz - GROW’s Workforce Development Program Manager.
If you took the free bus service from Toronto, Amanda would have met you bright and early at Union Station to make sure you got on the bus on your first day of on-site training. You may have also seen her greeting all NETP participants during on-site training weeks at Landscape Ontario in Milton.
2. The Inns and Outs of Interior Plantscaping
Plants have been incorporated into buildings for thousands of years, but the business of interior plantscaping really took off in the 1970s. In the 90s, trends shifted to a more sleek, minimalist look and an emphasis on quality and large blooming arrangements. The industry had an issue with staffing qualified people and eventually offices decided to forego the plants entirely. “Now the pendulum is swinging back the other way and now we’re realizing that we need plants,” Chris Raimondi, president and CEO of Raimondi Horticultural Group, Inc. based in Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey, says. “We have to create a biophilic approach. This human and nature connection is huge.”

4. How to Choose the Right Work Socks!
Your feet have 250,000 sweat glands, making them one of the sweatiest places on your body. And, if you stand, walk or move for most of your workday, then the right socks are your first line of defense for dry, comfortable feet.
Find out the differences between the materials to look for in socks and which ones are right for you.
5. EVENT: Landscape Ontario Trial Garden Open House 2022 (Aug. 18)
Save the date! This year’s Trial Garden Open House at Landscape Ontario is on August 18, 2022.
Trial gardens put plants in various growth conditions where horticulture technicians and experienced growers can record and evaluate their performance. Landscape Ontario’s Head Office in Milton, Ontario hosts one of these gardens. Some of you - GROW’s NETP Alumni & current participants - may have practiced your landscape maintenance skills in these gardens, and some have observed them from afar. This is your chance to learn about this year’s trial plants from the experts!
6. Call for ID’d by GROW submissions - Share your knowledge!
Did you learn about a new plant recently? A cool and effective work technique? Share your knowledge with your fellow alumni and peers!
Please send a photo and a short caption for your plant submission to srafols@landscapeontario.com.
